Roger D. Yusen, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University (WashU) School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He practices at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH). He has worked at Wash U and BJH for almost 30 years. He has dedicated much of his career to clinical care and research of patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE). His research has addressed issues of VTE diagnosis, risk stratification, prophylaxis, and treatment. He has served on multiple national and international committees for large clinical trials of anticoagulants that have led to approvals of enoxaparin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, and betrixaban, large registry studies, prognostic studies such as SLICE, and imaging studies that have included PIOPED II and PROTECT. He has co-authored papers that led to the development of the simplified pulmonary embolism severity index (sPESI) and validation of the Bova score.
